Super Mario Bros. Movie: 10 Best Characters For A Sequel

Estimated read time 7 min read

Here are the best figures that could be in a second Mario Bros. movie.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Nintendo and Illumination has been a big commercial success since it came out. Critics and fans have different opinions about it, but it has been breaking all kinds of records. This includes being the highest-grossing video game movie. However, the most impressive thing about it is that it beat Frozen 2’s record for the biggest opening weekend for an animated movie around the world.

With all this success, it’s almost certain that there will be a movie. There were a lot of great Mario figures in the movie, but there were also a lot of fan favourites that weren’t there. It would be great if these well-known figures showed up in the second Mario Movie.

Wiggler

Super Mario Sunshine Wiggler becomes enraged as Mario watches.

The Wigglers are not one of the most well-known enemies, but they are a fan favourite for many.

When they are healthy, these enemies that look like caterpillars are pretty cute, but what makes them special is what happens when they get hurt. They often turn red and run around like a bull that has lost its mind.

This could make them funnier than some of Mario’s other enemies and make them a better addition to the movie. It’s also important that the people in charge of the social media for the sequel spell the name of the enemy properly and don’t make the same terrible mistake that Nintendo of America did.

Birdo

Birdo from Mario Tennis Aces.

Birdo is one of the most popular friends in the Mario games. He first appeared in the American version of Super Mario Bros. She stands out from the other female figures because she is a pretty pink dinosaur. Many die-hard Mario Party fans were upset when Birdo was taken out of Mario Party 10, since they liked using her in the three previous games.

The figure is also well-known because it may be transgender. The original instructions for Mario 2 in America said that Birdo was transgender in a pretty direct way, but Nintendo seems to have changed its mind since then. It would be nice to have a different kind of character in the movie, but if they don’t want to do that, she could still be a good supporting character.

Bowser’s Kids

In a Hollywood movie remake, the stakes usually need to be raised, and that usually means adding more bad guys. Superhero films do this a lot, and Mario should do the same with Bowser’s Kids, whose real name is the Koopalings. They would be a great choice for this.

Mario has to beat Bowser again, but now he also has to deal with his seven kids, which is a big step up. The filmmakers can give each kid a unique personality, which could lead to some funny banter and be a great addition to the Mario Movie sequel as a whole.

King K. Rool

King K Rool from Super Smash Bros Ultimate

More than was expected, the Mario Movie had a lot of characters from the Donkey Kong games.

But the main bad guy, King K. Rool, was missing. He is a bad crocodile who makes a great enemy for DK and his friends.

A spin-off cartoon movie about Donkey Kong is possible in the future, but the main bad guy should still show up somewhere. Like Yoshi in the first movie, you could be in one small scene or a scene during or after the credits.

Goomboss

Yoshi fighting Goomboss from Super Mario 64 DS.

Getting away from the main characters for a moment, here is a boss who appears in not one but two different Mario games. Goombas are the most familiar and recognisable enemies in Mario games, but as his name suggests, Goomboss is the boss of them all.

He shows up in Paper Mario and Super Mario 64 DS. He is one of the best enemies with a stronger version.

It would be interesting to put him in a scene like the wedding where King Bob-omb and King Boo showed up. The figure is less well-known than those two, which would make it feel even better for fans to recognise him.

Petey Piranha

Super Mario Sunshine Petey Piranha asleep on his perch.

Petey Piranha, who first showed up in Super Mario Sunshine, is a harder version of a common enemy.

Even though there are a lot of Piranha Plants in the movie, Petey is nowhere to be seen. His head is shaped like a flower, which gives him a very unique look. His most interesting trait is only in Super Mario Sunshine, which is a shame.

Bowser Jr. is putting goop all over the island, and Petey eats a lot of it because one of his main moves is to spray goop around him. While Mario’s mouth is open, he has to shoot water into it until it fills up, and then he has to hit his belly.

If Bowser’s Kids are going to be in the next Flappy Bird game, this could definitely happen again and be funny.

Whomp King

The Whomp King from Super Mario Galaxy 2.

The Whomp King is the last harder version that should be in the Mario Movie 2 sequel. Whomps don’t show up in the Mario Movie, so it would make more sense for them and their King to show up in the sequel.

The Whomp King is a boss in both Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy 2. But he got a lot bigger in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

With how much the King weighs, there could be a funny moment where the ground shakes and he falls off. The Whomp King would be a great addition to the next movie, whether he is a figure Mario fights or just a background character.

Cappy

Super Mario Odyssesy: Mario After Collecting Cappy

It’s time for another sidekick, since Cappy is almost as good as Yoshi when it comes to Mario’s friends. He changes everything about Super Mario Odyssey by being able to direct others. And the next Mario movie would be the same.

The Cappy shop has already been hidden in the movie as an Easter egg. He definitely lives in the world, so it would make sense for him to show up in the next book. If Bowser’s Kids are added, Mario will need as much help as he can get, and Cappy would be a big part of that.

Wario

Wario from WarioWare: Get It Together!

There aren’t many bad guys in the Mario games or Nintendo games in general, but Wario is definitely the best. He is a lot like Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob SquarePants. Because he is very greedy and wants to make as much money as possible.

The fact that Wario is an anti-hero could make it interesting to see if Mario and the rest of the gang can trust him. Also, he is without a doubt one of the best bikers in game. And his cool bike could be used in the next movie.

Rosalina

Rosalina from the start of Super Mario Galaxy.

Rosalina needs to be in the second Mario Movie and should have been in the first one as well. Luigi and Peach switched places in the movie. So Peach had more to do and was more of a boss in the mushroom kingdom.

The thing is, there is already a strong woman in the Mario world who doesn’t rule a kingdom but protects the whole universe.

Rosalina stands out because she was the first strong woman character in the series. She saves Mario at the beginning of Mario Galaxy, and her skills are key to beating Bowser in that game.

Rosalina has to be in the next movie because she is so important to the story as a whole.
