8 Strangest Enemies In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Estimated read time 6 min read

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players have to beat a lot of strange enemies.

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Hyrule is shown to be both empty and rich, with people trying to live in peace while Calamity Ganon and his followers cast a dark cloud over the land. Link is there to protect the people of the once peaceful land from some of the most strong enemies that are terrorising it.

There are a lot of strange enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and not just the terrifying Calamity Ganon and the Blight Ganons that are attacking Hyrule Castle and the Divine Beasts. Players are often surprised by what they find on their adventures, whether it’s how something looks or how it acts in battle.

Wizzrobe

Wizzrobe in Breath of the Wild

Wizzrobes have changed a lot over the course of the Zelda games, but in Breath of the Wild, they look creepier than ever. The stronger versions of these zombie wizards attack Link with a sly grin and a childish laugh. They are armed with powerful elemental weapons that can do a lot of damage when used by the stronger enemies.

In Breath of the Wild, there’s no way to avoid these enemies. For example, during a side quest to impress a weapon fanatic, players will have to fight a Wizzrobe. But once players get used to how these enemies move and get over the fact that they look weird, it’s funny to watch how they fall when hit with an arrow, like ragdolls.

Stalnox

Link fighting a Stalnox in Breath of the Wild

The Stalnox are the bones of a Hinox that only come out at night and give Link a strange fight to deal with. Instead of throwing down trees and using strong attacks to stop Link, the Stalnox takes bones like its ribs and arms and throws them at him.

Even though the Stalnox may seem like just another one of Calamity Ganon’s reanimated monsters that follow Link at night, there is one Stalnox in the deep of Hyrule Castle that is important. When a Royal Guard kills this Stalnox, they are given the prized Hylian Shield and the title of “Knight.” Link has been a Knight for a hundred years, and this fight is the only way for him to get his famous shield back.

Molduking

Link defeating a Molduking in Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, there is only one Molduking. This makes it one of the rarest enemies in the game. Link faces off against the Molduking as part of the “EX Champion Urbosa’s Song” in the Divine Beast Tamer’s Trial. The Molduking was added in The Champions’ Ballad DLC.

In-game lore says that the Molduking got very strong by sleeping for hundreds of years. During that time, the iron in the sand turned into armour on its skin. It’s not clear how this Molduga got into this position or if other Moldugas go through a similar rite of passage. But since Molduga will show up again in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Players may run into another Molduking on their adventures.

Bokoblin

Bokoblin in Breath of the Wild

In The Legend of Zelda, Bokoblins are one of the most popular enemies. But they are strange little creatures, especially in Breath of the Wild. Even though they work for Ganon, they aren’t very smart when they fight Link. Instead, Bokoblins are often careless and scream while throwing their weapons around.

In Breath of the Wild, it is most amazing that they are able to train horses. Link has a hard time taming one, let alone a Bokoblin. It seems unlikely that one of these enemies would try to do the same thing. Though they probably use violence and threats to get their horse.

Lynel

Lynels have been around since the first game in the series. But they didn’t become famous enemies until Breath of the Wild. Lynels are one of the hardest enemies to beat in Breath of the Wild, and you have to pay close attention to how they move and attack to beat them.

There are different kinds of Lynels, and the five colours show how strong they are. There’s no reason for how Lynels get their colours, but the Golden Lynel from Master Mode is said to have been a Silver Lynel that was hit by lightning, which made its attack and defence better overall.

Talus

Link finds many things in Hyrule that are not what they seem to be, like huge piles of rocks. They come together very quickly to make the Talus, which looks like a Golem and has a lot of power. No one knows how these creatures came to be. But the fact that they can feel can cause Link a lot of trouble.

In Breath of the Wild, the only way for Link to beat these mini-bosses is to hit a small pile of ore on their backs. Players can break off a Talus’s arms with a two-handed weapon. But as the fight goes on, these pieces of stone seem to grow back on their own.

Lizalfos

Link fighting a Lizalfos in Breath of the Wild

Since their first appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Lizalfos have been a regular enemy in the series. In Penalty Kick Online game and the ones that came after it, the monsters look like lizards with minds. But in Breath of the Wild, they have changed into animals that look like chameleons. This jump is never explained, but it’s possible that it’s because the Lizalfos slowly adapted to their surroundings, which led to the different types of elements that can be found all over Hyrule.

The Lizalfos seem to be the smartest of the three enemies that players will run into most often as they explore Hyrule. Even though they aren’t very smart in battle, they almost took over the Zora Domain with their clever weapons, armour, and ways of fighting.

Guardian Stalker

Stalker Guardian targeting Link in Breath of the Wild

The Guardians were made by the Sheikah to fight against Calamity Ganon. However, when Malice, a substance that gives Calamity Ganon power over ancient technology and monsters, spread. It took over the Guardians. Players fear the Guardian Stalker more than any other machine. Because it plays that scary piano music whenever Link is in its sights.

It’s weird that the Shiekah thought it would be a good idea to give the Guardian so many legs. It makes sense in the sense that it can cover a lot of ground. But that makes it a big problem if an evil force takes over, which is what always happens.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now available on Nintendo Switch.
