8 Games Where You Control A Cop

Estimated read time 5 min read

Most of the time, the police in video games are there to spoil your fun. In these games, though, you get to play as them.

Over the years, the police have been in a lot of computer games. Still, you could say they should have shown up more often because they might have been able to solve a few problems. But, unfortunately, they usually cause more problems than they fix.

Just think about how many open-world games have characters whose only purpose is to ruin your fun. Think about how much trouble you could cause in GTA if they weren’t there to stop you from having fun. But in the games below, the cops won’t get in the way of your fun. In fact, you are really in charge of them.

Swat 4

Swat 4 lets you play as a member of a police swat team, as you might think. This means that you often go into places where crimes might be happening to police the law. But the game doesn’t want you to take advantage of your power.

You shouldn’t kill people unless you have to in self-defense. You should instead arrest suspects and mark any proof you find. You must also tell your team members to do the same thing. So, the end goal is to be in charge of a trained and skilled SWAT team.

The Getaway: Black Monday

In The Getaway: Black Monday, a game from 2004, you play as three different people. One of them is a cop called Ben Mitchell, who goes by the nickname Mitch. But calling him a cop doesn’t really do him justice, since he is actually a police sergeant in London.

He is a member of the SCO19, which means that, unlike the normal English cop, he can use guns. Even so, he shot and killed an armed child in his past, so maybe he shouldn’t have that right. He was kicked off the team for that, and the game is about him getting back on the team.

Sleeping Dogs

Most of the best China games take place in the past, but Sleeping Dogs is set in the present. In it, you play as Wei Shen, who is a police officer in Hong Kong. He stays hidden in the Triads for most of the game.

They don’t trust him right away and don’t exactly welcome him with open arms. Wei has to earn their trust. Along the way, he gets closer to the gang members while his relationship with his bosses at the police force gets worse. Not surprisingly, this makes it hard for him to decide which side he is really on.

Lego City Undercover

Many different IPs have been used in the Lego games. One of the best Lego games, though, isn’t based on a big movie or comic book. Lego City Undercover is the name of the book in question. In this open-world journey, you play as Chase McCain, a cop who wants to keep Lego City safe from a dangerous crime boss and any other bad guys he meets.

He usually gets justice by putting on convincing disguises and going underground. If that doesn’t work, he knows how to fight his way out. He uses both strategies during the whole Spacebar Clicker game.

Driver

John Tanner is the main character in Driver. He used to race cars and is now a police officer. He works for the NYPD, and more specifically, he is an undercover cop. His job is to join a criminal family and find out what they are up to.

He manages to win over the crooks by showing them how good a driver he used to be in his previous job. Once he’s in, he uses the same skills to help his new friends with jobs in a few different places. As he does this, he slowly learns more about their organisation.

Crackdown

In Crackdown, law enforcement is a little different from what you see in real life. Instead of regular cops, you have agents with better bodies. They can jump higher, run faster, and hit harder than standard police officers. In fact, they are some of the best superheroes who were made by neither DC nor Marvel.

Their goal is to clean up Pacific City by getting rid of the three crime groups that run it in a planned way. Since there is no red tape in their way, these spies are free to attack and kill the most powerful members of the gang.

Beat Cop

In this game with a retro look, you play as a police cop named Jack Kelly. He used to be a fancy detective, but now he’s a beat cop and has to work the streets. He fell from grace at the same time he was charged with murder. Even though everyone thinks he’s guilty, he knows he was set up.

So, while you’re on the job, you have to look into the murder in secret to find out who put you up to it. You might be able to clear your name. But you can’t forget to do your normal police work while doing this.

Resident Evil 2

In Resident Evil 2, you play as Leon Kennedy, a cop who has the worst first day on the job ever. This is because there is a zombie outbreak in the city before he gets to the train stop. When he gets there, almost all of his fellow cops are already dead. He can’t go on watch because he has to do everything he can to stay alive.

A lot of this takes place in the station, but he also moves around the area. At the end, he shows that he has what it takes to stay alive. In fact, because of what he did, he became a government spy in the next game.
