A Prayer to Refocus Your Thoughts
By Jessica Van Roekel

“Finally, brothers, whatsoever is legitimate, regardless of what is honorable, whichever is just, whichever is pure, regardless of what is charming, what ever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is everything worthy of praise, believe about these issues.” –  Philippians 4:8

Have you ever walked into a space and felt you did not belong? I entered a conference the other day, and I felt no person wished me there. Frowns and furrowed brows graced their faces. It spiraled me into a series of adverse feelings. I considered I wasn’t good sufficient, likable, or deserving of acknowledgment. I struggled to convey my attention to the purpose of the conference for the reason that I felt rejected. Perceived rejection is assuming rejection just before it has happened. I’m a genius at pre-rejecting myself on a person else’s behalf. I interpret the squint of the eyes as disapproval and the purse of the lips as annoyance toward me. I think I’m presently rejected to shield myself, but this behavior sales opportunities me into a cycle of staying rejected and rejecting other men and women. I grew to become conscious of this tendency when the Lord revealed how the dread of rejection prevented me from going for walks in the methods he experienced for me.

God longs for us to improve in kindness and mercy. He wishes us to know who we are in Christ, which is picked out, accredited, wished-for, and discipled. Nonetheless, when we get trapped in designs of pre-rejection, we wrestle with these. We believe the worst about ourselves and many others. Our emphasis drills inward until eventually we see ourselves via a turned down lens. This rejected lens stops us from viewing somebody else’s struggles and concerns. It interferes with compassion toward other individuals. It normally takes us down a route of assumptions, foremost to misunderstandings and damaged interactions.

When lots of of us have exterior struggles with household, family members, perform, and funds, we also deal with internal battles. Our mind is 1 of the finest areas of struggle, wherever external battles are won or shed. Pre-rejection steals our peace and promotes nervous ideas, influencing our steps and attitudes. It is incredible how I feed rejection when I presume I’ve been turned down. When I start out from a position of assuming rejection, it impacts likely new associations. If I’m closed off and self-safeguarding, it would make me appear to be chilly and unfriendly. This is not who I am, but when I’m dominated by dread, it is what I show. I’ve realized the mystery to overcoming this tendency lies in my ideas.

Romans 12:2 tells us to “be remodeled by the renewal” of our minds, and pre-rejecting ourselves on behalf of another person else assumes the worst attainable final result. The Apostle Paul inspired the Philippians to guard their hearts. Guarding our hearts encourages peace in ourselves and our interactions, but we must get the job done at it. Our minds naturally operate alongside unfavorable tracks, but we can retrain our feelings. Think about what would take place if we concentrated on whichever is superior, and when we wander into a room, we imagine about what is honorable. Rejecting by yourself since you’re afraid anyone may possibly reject you does not honor you or the other individual.

A single of the techniques to triumph over this inclination is to search for the fantastic in some others. I realized when I presume a person has turned down me, I’m projecting my dread of rejection onto them. They could possibly be frowning in my course, not due to the fact of me, but since of a thing in their everyday living. In its place of responding with compassion and outward emphasis, we react with self-safety and self-concentration. I continue to walk into conferences with the “Will they like me?” recreation playing in my head. But I’m understanding to refocus my thoughts on myself and asking the Lord, “How can I present them you?” It starts off in our minds and then translates into actions.

Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you that you give us all the instruments we have to have to live this daily life for you. Forgive us when we neglect to use them and permit our feelings scatter to unhealthy and everyday living-thieving pathways. We want to emphasis on you. You are honorable, beautiful, true, commendable, just, and superb, and when we consider about you in these terms, you assist us think about other people in them far too. Aid us refocus our thoughts currently. In Jesus’ title, Amen
